Retool, Rebuild & Retrofit Existing Machinery: PRISM Examples
Do you have model year changes or part feature updates that affect tooling, fixturing, and part process sequencing? Do you have unacceptable downtime or scrap rate on your existing equipment? We have a wide breadth of experience, with a special competency in PRISM upgrades.

Uptime improvements
When Caterpillar-Peoria’s Cargill-Detroit PRISM Track Link Machines began experiencing unacceptable downtime due to component failure, New Vista provided a rebuild kit:
  • Design and install wear strips for the worn-down fixture plates that travel between 10 machining stations
  • Design and install upgraded cam followers that incorporate better sealing and a higher thrust load capacity
  • Design and install access covers to ease future servicing of machine

Scrap rate improvements
When Caterpillar-Mossville’s PRISM Crankshaft Gun Drilling Machine began damaging high value crankshafts, New Vista evaluated the problem, and designed, built, and installed a solution:
  • Evaluate existing operations to determine two failure scenarios
    • Irregularly high or low through-the-gun-drill coolant flow
    • Out of position drill bushing
  • Engineer drill bushing position sensing
  • Engineer solid-state quick-response coolant flow monitoring that replaces original mechanical sensing that would jam with chips
Accommodate new parts or part features:
When Caterpillar-Peoria replaced its left and right-hand track link with a universal D8 System 1 Link, it needed to accomplish additional machining:
  • An additional bushing bore
  • Rotary capability to turn part 180 degrees, for additional backside spotfacing
New Vista provided:
  • Engineering
  • Parts manufacture
  • Assembly and detail part documentation (including process drawings) and operator instructions, all on customer’s format
New Vista worked with customer to provide:
  • Installation
  • Onsite startup and runoff
  • Downtime was limited to 6 shifts over one weekend
Other New Vista capabilities:
  • Design new cutting tools & test and install them
  • Update process programming and operator screens
  • Design and prove-out gaging systems
